Each year, the Albany Symphony brings New York’s Capital Region the American Music Festival – a unique multi-day celebration of American music and living composers. Anchored around the last subscription concert of the year as the capstone of the season, the Festival represents a destination for you to experience the cutting edge of music by the top creative artists alive today.


Festival Concert

The central event of the festival, the orchestra's American Music Festival concert consists entirely of new music, through commissions of acclaimed composers, performances of rarely-heard modern masterpieces, and interaction with the top artistic talent of today.

Dogs of Desire


Dogs of Desire is the Albany Symphony’s groundbreaking, eighteen-member new music chamber ensemble provides a unique contemporary and energetic melding of orchestral chamber music and performance. The ensemble, a unique feature among today's orchestras, is featured on a stand-alone performance during the Festival. Read more about Dogs here.

Composer to Center Stage Reading Session


Our new Reading Session is the culmination of a national call-for-scores competition for young and emerging composers.  Open to the public, the session allows our audiences a unique glimpse inside the compositional process and a chance to interact with the rehearsal of brand new works. Guest Performers

Each year, the Albany Symphony invite various Capital Region ensembles to perform as part of the American Music Festival, highlighting the extraordinary talent found in our area. In 2011, the Albany Symphony presents the Empire State Youth Orchestra in a dynamic program to feature exciting new works and recent commissions.
