Symphony Spotlight - 2/4/21

Symphony Spotlight

This week, we are excited to introduce to you immensely gifted composer Tyson Davis, whose work we are commissioning and premiering on February 13.

Featured Composer: Tyson Davis

Tyson Davis, though still very early in his career, has had many pieces premiered and performed around the world. Distances, his work commissioned by the Albany Symphony for its concert on Saturday, February 13th, delves into the emotional complexity of the human mind. From a very young age, Davis loved to create. His journey began at the piano, those skills cultivating a strong foundation in music theory and composition. About Distances, Davis said, "I had taken a trip to Roosevelt Island, which is just across from Manhattan, where my dorm is at Juilliard. I remember thinking, as I looked across the East River, how close, yet how far Manhattan was from this island. It was poetically metaphorical for what was happening and is still happening in our world." Be sure to join us for this world premiere!
