Albany Symphony Kicks Off 2016.17 Averill Park Adopt-a-School Program

On Thursday, November 3rd, the Albany Symphony's Principal Clarinetist, Susan Martula, and English Hornist, Nathaniel Fossner, visited 4th grade students at Poestenkill, West Sand Lake, and Miller Hill-Sand Lake Elementary Schools as part of the Albany Symphony's Adopt-a-School program.

During their visit, students enjoyed demonstrations of various instruments in the woodwind family and experimented with how sound is produced on the flute, piccolo, clarinet, oboe, English horn, and the saxophone. Students at each school were also treated to an in-school recital featuring some of classical music's most beloved melodies.

The Adopt-a-School program is the Albany Symphony's flagship education program. For more than 15 years, the Adopt-a-School program has given students in local elementary schools an up close and personal view into the world of classical music and the instruments of the orchestra by bringing Albany Symphony musicians and their instruments into their classrooms.

A special thank you to the Averill Park Education Foundation for their generous support of this unique Arts in Education Program.
