ON THE ROAD: DEBUT NIGHT AT THE KENNEDY CENTER
After spending the morning visiting the monuments and touring the Kennedy Center, the Albany Symphony took the stage for a spectacular evening of adventurous music on the national stage.
POWERFUL MESSAGE STREAMED LIVE FROM THE MILLENNIUM STAGE
On Wednesday night, Albany Symphony's Composer-Educator, Clarice Assad, took the stage with 7th and 8th grade students from KIPP Charter School in Washington, D.C. to perform a song that was composed by the students as part of the Albany Symphony's SHIFT Festival residency. The lyrics beamed with hope for a world without violence and the chance to live out their dreams. This powerful message was streamed live around the world on Facebook and Youtube.
EXCITEMENT AND HOMETOWN PRIDE FILLED THE KENNEDY CENTER
Patrons from Albany and the Beltway came to the Kennedy Center to hear the Albany Symphony perform beautiful concert. The beauty of the music was matched by the excitement that radiated through the audience. Also in the audience were dozens of music critics from the Music Critics Association of North America.
Peter Brusoe (President) and members of the Metro D.C. UAlbany Alumni Association came to the concert to show their symphony pride. On their way into the concert hall they ran into Albany mayor Kathy Sheehan.
Symphony Board Members Barry Richman and Steve Lobel documented this historic moment by taking a #SymphonySelfie as the musicians warmed up their instruments and the audience found their seats.
Did you know that the Kennedy Center was design by Edward Durell Stone. Stone also designed the University at Albany Uptown Campus on Washington Avenue.
