2024 Water Music NY: More Voices Concerts

5 Erie Canal locations where the symphony raised more voices in 2024

WATER MUSIC NY 2024
RAISING MORE VOICES

The Albany Symphony, in partnership with the New York Power Authority and the New York State Canal Corporation, presented a powerful commemorative and celebratory series of free livestreamed pop-up concerts taking place along the Erie Canal during the fall of 2024.

Between September 26 and November 2, 2024, there were five free, pop-up concerts featuring new music the most compelling composers writing today. Performed by small ensembles of Albany Symphony musicians and vocalists in unique Canal-adjacent spaces, these concerts explored stories of the 524-mile New York State Canal system’s past, present, and future.

The three-year Water Music NY project, spanning 2024-2026, takes inspiration from the orchestra’s original 2017 Water Music NY Festival, and opens a new chapter, exploring underrepresented voices, including those of women, immigrants, people of color, and Indigenous peoples, to commemorate the bicentennial of the completion of the Erie Canal.

Whether you tuned in via livestream or attended the concert in-person, we want to thank you for joining the Albany Symphony in commemoration of the history and innovation toward future of the Erie Canal.
