THE ALBANY SYMPHONY TO ANNOUNCE WASHINGTON, D.C. DEBUT AT KENNEDY CENTER SHIFT: A FESTIVAL OF AMERICAN ORCHESTRAS

The Albany Symphony Highlights New York Capital Region as a Hub for Artistic Excellence and New Music on the National Stage

Albany, NY [January 16, 2018] –  The Albany Symphony has been selected by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as one of four American orchestras nationwide to perform in SHIFT: A Festival of American Orchestras. Co-presented by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Washington Performing Arts, SHIFT is a week-long national spotlight in Washington D.C. that celebrates the evolving contributions and extraordinary artistry of 21st century orchestras like the Albany Symphony. 

Nationally recognized for its commitment to new music by living American composers, the Albany Symphony will perform a collection of contemporary works that explores the history of upstate, NY through the lens of bodies of water that surround and connect communities.  The Albany Symphony will also announce a new partnership with Discover Albany, Albany County’s official tourism promotion agency to promote the cultural and community assets of the Capital Region in Washington D.C.

WHO:  GRAMMY® Award-winning Music Director, David Alan Miller, musicians of the Albany Symphony, Congressman Paul D.Tonko, Assemblymember Patricia Fahy, and Discover Albany CEO, Michele Vennard.

WHAT:  Press Conference to announce the Albany Symphony’s Kennedy Center debut in Washington D.C. at the SHIFT Festival and a partnership with Discover Albany to promote Albany as a unique cultural destination for individual and corporate travelers.

The Press Conference will be held in the main lobby in front the Culture Mural near Meeting Room 2A.

The Albany Capital Center Murals were created to inspire and educate visitors about the history and many assets of the City of Albany and the surrounding county. Spanning some 400 years, the history is filled with people, places, and stories that matter. Artist Dahl Taylor has captured the energy and beauty of the region and chartered the growth of Albany from a small riverside settlement to a booming state capital.  The Cultural Mural, located outside Meeting Room 2A prominently spotlights the Albany Symphony.

PARKING:

The Albany Capital Center’s parking garage is located beneath the facility. The garage is located at 7 Wendell Street, Albany, NY 12207. Official press vehicles: Utilize the pull-offs located immediately in front of the facility right at 55 Eagle Street and on the side on Howard Street.
