December 3, 2020 – International Day of Persons with Disabilities
Ludwig van Beethoven physically and socially distanced himself to hide his deafness. Fear of being chastised and deemed unfit to create music despite his artistic genius prompted him to isolate emotionally from the world around him. In a rare emotionally raw letter to his brother in 1802, Beethoven revealed how deeply affected he was by his deafness. This month, as we honor Beethoven’s 250th birthday, Albany Symphony expresses a heartfelt thank you to the many artists who overcome physical and neurological differences to produce great art. We honor you and celebrate your work.
